Are You Living in the Fullness of the Holy Spirit?

Are You Living in the Fullness of the Holy Spirit?

By Rev. Charlie Holt

The Christian life is a movement from crucified to resurrected to spirit filled.

With the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, we entered the final phase of God’s plan of redemption and salvation for the world. Forty days after Jesus rose from the dead, he ascended into the heavenly realms and took the throne of heaven seated at the right hand of the Father (Acts 1:1-10). Fifty days after the resurrection, Jesus poured out the promised Holy Spirit and inaugurated the New Covenant between God and humanity (Acts 2:1-41).

In the letter to the church in Ephesus, the Apostle Paul outlines the grand plan of God in Jesus Christ to redeem and restore the cosmos. The plan is straightforward – to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ (Ephesians 1:10).

The two agents actively bringing about Christ’s rule on earth as it is in heaven are the Holy Spirit and us! When you and I believed in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of the world, we became beneficiaries and agents of the plan of redemption. You are an appointed ambassador, entrusted with the “word of truth, the gospel of your salvation” (Ephesians 1:13).

God makes this promise to you: “When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession – to the praise of his glory” (Ephesians 1:13-14, NIV). Through this Holy Spirit, the Lord would have you know the joy and security of his life in you and through you. You experience this joy and security through your baptism – outpouring of the Spirit; your adoption – the calling of the Spirit; your transformation – the fruit of the Spirt; your being equipped – the gifts of the Holy Spirit; your empowerment – the work of the Spirit; and your anointing – the mission of the Spirit.

Are you living in the fullness of this Spirit-filled life? It is God’s plan and purpose for you. Paul prayed for the church and for you:

"For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power though his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith – that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God." Ephesians 3:14-19

Today is the day to surrender to the gift of the Holy Spirit, to invite him to do his holy work in your life and through your life. If you need help in discovering God’s plans and purposes for you, consider working through our six-week study entitled The Spirit Filled Life.
