Does God See You and Know You?

Does God See You and Know You?

By Brooke Holt

“When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?” Psalm 8:3-4

Humans have a deep desire to be noticed and acknowledged. Screaming fans vie for attention at concerts or as their favorite celebrity passes through the crowd surrounded by guards and paparazzi to try to fill those needs. We hope maybe this celebrity will hear our cry, see us, speak to us, or even take a picture with us. These fanciful desires are rarely fulfilled. Celebrities are just too busy or too special to spend much time focused on the common folk.

Thankfully, the Lord’s ways differ vastly from the ways of man! Psalm 8 begins with praise: “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” Even greater than the most famous of celebrities is the Lord. His glory far surpasses any earthly glory, and yet this glorious God perfectly sees and cares for his people.

As the Creator of all things in heaven and on earth, the Lord does not remain distant from his creation but fully engages with mankind. He knows each one of us by name and knows every detail of our lives, even down to the number of hairs on our heads (see Matthew 10:30). We serve this God – the God who creates, who knows us intimately and perfectly, who cares for every detail of our lives, and who remains with us always, ready to guide and sustain us.

Do you marvel at this truth as the psalmist did? Do you appreciate how perfectly God knows you and loves you? Are you then mindful of him? Are you taking time to spend with him each day studying his word and talking to him in prayer? Are you focused on discovering his plans for your life? And are you taking time to worship and to serve him each day?

God is above everything in this world – each person and every part of his created order. He alone is God, and he alone is worthy of your worship. Perhaps today marks the day you stop and marvel at all that God has created; then marvel again that you are a special part of his creation. You are perfectly known and loved by the Lord.

Reflection:

How does it feel to be known and loved by the Lord? Take some time today to ponder this miracle, to delight in it, and to thank the Lord for his glorious nature and perfect care for you. We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
