Do You Know Your Value to God?

“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” Matthew 10:29-31
Jesus has been talking to his disciples about the persecution they soon will face (he was speaking to the original disciples but also to you). As he warned them of this persecution, he told them to fear neither those who would persecute them nor the persecution. Why? Because their Father in heaven saw everything, and he cared about them infinitely more than they could understand or even imagine.
When people face persecution or challenging circumstances, it is easy to believe that God is not there or that he does not care. Jesus spoke these words to dispel those lies. The Father is not sitting up in heaven oblivious to the pain of his people. Jesus differentiated between the ways of God and the ways of humankind. The Father sees every sparrow, knows every sparrow -- knows when it flies and knows when it falls. He cares about about hall he created and every little detail no matter how small. He misses nothing. If that is true about a sparrow who was considered the least among the birds, how much truer is it for his children?
Do you knowhow many hairs are on your head? If you are a parent, have you counted the number of hairs on the heads of your children? Probably not, especially since the typical person has between 80,000 and 120,000 hairs on their head (I think my father is the exception to this one!) The Lord knows every hair on your head; he knows the exact number of them; he knows the intricate details of your life; most importantly, he profoundly cares about those details. He loves you unconditionally.
If the Father cares so profoundly for you, can you trust him during times of suffering? Do you cry out to him and find comfort in his presence and care for you? Can you see beyond your circumstances to the loving Father who never takes his eyes off you?
Jesus has been quite clear that his disciples would face tribulation and persecution, but, like those throughout the ages, we have a hope as those who follow him, for he has overcome the world (see John 16:33). Not only has Jesus overcome the world, but he is with you and for you;, he sees, knows, and cares about every detail about you.
You are of infinite value to the Lord. Because we live in a fallen world, we are not spared from the pain of it but knowing our value to him and his incredible care for us can provide the comfort and strength needed to endure and overcome.
