Do You Hear the Voice of the Lord?

Do You Hear the Voice of the Lord?

By Brooke Holt

“The voice of the Lord is over the water; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over many waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.” Psalm 29:3-4

What a glorious declaration of God’s power and glory! Yet, if we are honest, it is far too easy to forget or simply miss the power and majesty of the Lord in our day and age. Technology seems to be the all-powerful force in our lives. We put much trust in the things we can see, feel, and understand. Yet, much greater than these things is the voice of the Lord -- the voice that has all power and that is sovereign over all things.

Let me ask you a question – do you listen to the voice of the Lord, or are you preoccupied with the other voices speaking in our world today? God still speaks. He speaks in creation, in the gathering of his people, and specifically to each of his children through the Spirit. The voice of the Lord can direct your steps and lead you on the path of obedience and righteousness.

To hear his voice, to have the power to obey his voice, you must get still and listen not just with your head but with our heart and spirit and then to obey. The voice of the Lord is powerful, full of majesty, and is the source of perfect wisdom for you.

Reflection:

Are you listening to the voice of the Lord today? What is he asking you to do? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
