Are You Sharing the Good News of Jesus?

“Oh sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth! Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!” Psalm 96:1-3
What do you do when you have good news to share? Do you call family and friends, post on social media, or make appointments to personally share your news? I remember when our first child was born. My husband told everyone about our son. He loved to show pictures, talk about what Chase was doing, how he was sleeping, what he was eating, and to simply share his joy about being a father. It was overwhelming to him!
When we have good news, we long to share that news with our family, friends, and anyone else who will listen. This Christmas season, we are reminded of the very best news ever. Jesus has come to bring salvation, to restore our relationship to God, to advocate for us, and to assure us of our eternal inheritance. How can we not tell everyone of this glorious news?
That is exactly what the Psalmist declares throughout Psalm 96. In these first three verses, he commends God’s people to sing to the Lord, to bless his name, to tell the story of God’s salvation, to declare his glory to all nations, and to proclaim the mighty works of the Lord to all people. It is a celebration of the Lord’s kingship and rule over all the heavens and the earth. God’s people are called to not only delight in God’s glory but to tell others about it. The psalmist knows that those who truly behold the glory of the Lord, those who see his work in creation and on their behalf, cannot help but sing, bless, and declare. Why – because it is consuming to behold the glory of God?
This Christmas are you taking time to behold the glory of God. The parties have died down, the presents are opened, the feasting has come to an end. Now is the time to soak in what God has done in sending his Son for you. Now is the time to marvel at the gift of salvation. Allow yourself to become consumed with God’s glory so that you can’t help but go out and share this good news with others.
