Why Do An Easter Study?

Why Do an Easter Study?

By Brooke Holt

We have finished the forty days of Lent, waved palms celebrating Jesus triumphal entry into Jerusalem, commemorated his last meal with his disciples, and reflected upon his sacrificial and atoning death on the cross. This journey culminated with our celebration of his glorious resurrection! As we begin this season of Easter, how are your spiritual disciplines? More importantly, how is your heart towards the Lord? Do you love him more today? Are you seeking his direction and listening attentively to his voice? Have you allowed the Lord to search your life and reveal the things that draw you from him? Are you walking in deeper surrender and obedience to him? Do you more deeply see his incredible love for you?

The season of Lent is not about rules and regulations—it is about heart and soul. The Lord desires that you love him above everything else in this world. Jesus taught his disciples, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37). Throughout the season of Lent, we may have chosen to fast from things that vie for our love, attention, and worship so that Christ can have the rightful place on the throne of our hearts and lives. Or perhaps we chose to take on new habits like daily Bible reading, Scripture memory, or prayer.

The spiritual disciplines you develop during Lent don’t affect your life for only forty days. Instead, as you draw closer to the Lord throughout the Lenten season, the Holy Spirit will transform your heart, soul, and mind to love God more. He will transform your life to become more like Jesus, “transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit” (2 Corinthians 3:18). This spiritual practice is for the rest of your life!

So why stop your spiritual disciplines with the celebration of Easter? This year, continue to cultivate the spiritual habits you developed in Lent. And consider sharing the fruit of your habits with others in Christ, as in a small group Bible study. Choose a study that will draw you to read and meditate on God’s Word each day. Support and encourage one another’s spiritual disciplines as you meet with brothers and sisters in Christ to work through the study—to discuss, challenge, and encourage one another: “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another” (Proverbs 27:17). Through small group Bible study, God’s people grow and sharpen each other through accountability, mutual love, fellowship, and support.

God’s transformative work is a lifetime invitation. May this Easter season be one of continued fellowship with God and his word. Bible Study Media is here to support you in this spiritual growth. We have small group Bible studies designed especially for the Easter season: The Resurrected Life, A Living Hope, and Walking in Light. These studies have daily Scripture readings, daily devotional readings, small group study guides, and online teaching videos.

The vision of Bible Study Media is to end biblical illiteracy and see hearts ignited and minds engaged through the study of God’s Word. May God come and continue the work begun in Holy Week and as we celebrated the resurrection of Jesus throughout the season of Easter. May our hearts be more captivated by his love and grace so that our lives are transformed to look more like his Son, our Savior Jesus Christ.

And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God” (Philippians 1:9–11).
